Typical connection process
Steps generally involved in connecting to the public sewer:
- Make a pre-connection enquiry to Uisce Éireann to check feasibility and capacity
- Obtain planning permission for the development if required
- Submit a formal connection application with site details and drawings
- Receive a connection offer setting out charges and technical conditions
- Pay the connection charge and any required contribution
- Arrange the physical connection with Uisce Éireann or an approved contractor
- Retain records of the agreement for future property transactions
What happens without an agreement
Connecting to a public sewer without an agreement is unauthorised and can result in the connection being disconnected, enforcement action, and difficulty regularising the situation later, including at the point of selling the property. It can also create risk of contamination or network problems if the connection has not been designed to the required standard.
