Who certifies gas installations in Ireland?

Gas works in domestic premises must be carried out by a Registered Gas Installer, who issues a Declaration of Conformance through the Register of Gas Installers of Ireland. It is an offence for an unregistered person to carry out such works.

The scheme is regulated statutorily, and gas suppliers and networks require the declaration before commissioning a new supply. Keep the document with the handover pack.

Similar registration schemes apply to other high-risk services, and insurers and conveyancers now routinely ask for the paperwork on sale.

  • Verify the installer's registration number before works
  • Get the Declaration of Conformance on completion
  • Service appliances annually and keep records
  • Fit carbon monoxide alarms where combustion appliances exist
