A domestic wall-mounted EV charge point within the curtilage of a house is exempted development subject to conditions on number, size and position. The electrical installation must be certified by a Registered Electrical Contractor.
Regulations amended in recent years extended exemptions for electric vehicle charge points at houses and in some other settings, with conditions on the number of units, their projection from the wall and their siting relative to the public road.
Free-standing charge points, units serving apartment developments, and installations at protected structures are more likely to require permission or at least a section 5 declaration.
