Is there a grant for an EV charger in Ireland?

Yes. A grant is available towards the purchase and installation of a home charge point for homeowners, and separate supports exist for apartment blocks and shared parking. The work must be done by a Registered Electrical Contractor.

The main condition is safe off-street parking associated with the dwelling, so the cable does not cross a public footpath. Owning an electric vehicle is not always required, but eligibility rules change so check the current scheme terms.

Apartment owners and owners' management companies have access to a separate scheme covering shared parking infrastructure, which requires the management company's involvement.

Before applying

  • Confirm off-street parking and a viable cable route
  • Check the existing supply capacity with the electrician
  • Use a Registered Electrical Contractor
  • Keep the completion certificate for the claim
