What is the Warmer Homes Scheme?

The Warmer Homes Scheme delivers fully funded energy upgrades to homeowners receiving certain qualifying welfare payments. SEAI surveys the home, appoints the contractor and covers the cost of the measures identified.

Eligibility is based on receipt of specified social welfare payments and on the home being owner-occupied and built before a qualifying date. Applicants do not choose the contractor or the measures — SEAI's survey determines what is installed.

Typical measures include attic insulation, cavity or internal wall insulation, draught-proofing, lagging jackets and, in some cases, heating and ventilation improvements. Demand is high and waiting periods can be long.

What to expect

  • Application and eligibility check against welfare records
  • Home survey to identify feasible measures
  • Contractor appointed by SEAI
  • Works completed at no cost to the homeowner
